1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to canadianfoodindex.ca (“the Site”). It describes what personal information is collected, how it is used, and the rights individuals have under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25 / Act 64).
2. Information Collected
The Site collects:
- Standard web access logs via the Site's hosting provider (Vercel). These include IP address (typically truncated), user agent, request URL, response status, and timestamp. Retained for up to 30 days for operational/security purposes.
- No cookies for tracking or advertising are set by the Site itself.
- Email correspondence: if you email the Site operator, your email address and message content are retained for the purpose of responding and for record-keeping.
3. Use of Information
Collected information is used solely to:
- Operate, secure, and maintain the Site.
- Respond to inquiries.
- Comply with legal obligations.
The Site does NOT sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. The Site does NOT use behavioural advertising tracking.
4. Your Rights
Under PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information held about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Withdraw consent for processing where applicable.
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or, for Quebec residents, the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI).
5. Data Retention
Standard web access logs: up to 30 days. Email correspondence: retained as long as necessary to maintain a record of the inquiry and any follow-up, subject to legal retention requirements.
6. Security
The Site is hosted on Vercel, which provides SOC 2 Type II-attested infrastructure security. Email correspondence is stored in Google Workspace, which is similarly attested.
7. International Transfers
The Site's hosting provider (Vercel) operates data centers in multiple jurisdictions including the United States. Visitors should be aware that personal information may be processed outside of Canada.
